Balance is not about perfect halves; it is about knowing when to be and when to do. The BE:DO Approach was born from my own burnout story and from the realisation that energy, not time, is what keeps us steady.
Understanding BE and DO energy
- Being energy restores you: reflection, connection, learning, breathing space.
- Doing energy drives you: action, problem-solving, delivery, progress.
Too much of either leads to imbalance. Sustainable performance happens when you consciously move between the two.
How to find your BE:DO balance
- Identify your values. They anchor your energy in what matters.
- Map your week. Notice when you are in being mode versus doing mode.
- Adjust intentionally. Schedule recovery like you schedule meetings.
- Check your rhythm. Balance is dynamic; it shifts as life does.
Why it matters
Psychological research shows that when people manage their energy rather than their time, performance increases dramatically.
The BE:DO mindset gives leaders the awareness to restore energy before depletion, creating more creativity, empathy and composure in their teams. Balance becomes the foundation of resilience, not a reaction to stress.
